Fresher interview prep

Python Developer interview questions for freshers.

Fresher Python interviews cover data types, functions, common libraries and a short coding exercise, plus questions on your projects.

  1. 1. What is the difference between a list and a tuple?

How to answer: Lists are mutable; tuples are immutable, so tuples can be dictionary keys and signal fixed data.

  2. 2. What are *args and **kwargs?

How to answer: *args collects extra positional arguments as a tuple; **kwargs collects extra keyword arguments as a dictionary.

  3. 3. Explain list comprehensions with an example.

    How to answer: A concise way to build lists: [x * x for x in range(10) if x % 2 == 0]. Mention readability limits.

  4. 4. What is the difference between deep copy and shallow copy?

How to answer: A shallow copy shares nested objects with the original; a deep copy duplicates them, using copy.deepcopy().

  5. 5. What are decorators?

How to answer: Functions that wrap another function to add behaviour, applied with @. Logging or timing are good examples.

  6. 6. How is memory managed in Python?

How to answer: CPython uses reference counting plus a garbage collector for reference cycles.

  7. 7. How would you remove duplicates from a list while keeping order?

How to answer: list(dict.fromkeys(items)) keeps first occurrences in order, since dictionaries preserve insertion order.

  8. 8. Which Python libraries have you used in a project?

How to answer: Pick ones you truly used (pandas, Flask, Django, NumPy) and explain what each did in your project.

Get questions based on your own resume

Interviewers ask about your projects, not generic lists. Add your resume and RoundLeap builds 30 questions from it — 40 if you add a job description — and lets you practise a mock round.
