Fresher interview prep
Digital Marketing Executive interview questions for freshers.
Fresher digital marketing interviews cover SEO fundamentals, how Google Ads bidding works, metrics like CAC and LTV, and whether you can read a campaign report.
1. What is the difference between SEO and SEM?
How to answer: SEO earns unpaid (organic) traffic by improving rankings; SEM usually means paid search ads. Explain that SEO is slower but compounds, while ads give instant visibility at a cost per click.
2. What are the most important on-page SEO factors?
How to answer: Title tag, meta description, headings, content that matches search intent, internal links, page speed and mobile-friendliness. Mention that keyword stuffing hurts rather than helps.
3. How does Google Ads decide which ad to show?
How to answer: Ad Rank = bid × Quality Score (expected click-through rate, ad relevance, landing page experience). A higher-quality ad can beat a higher bid — that's the insight interviewers want.
4. What are CAC and LTV, and why do they matter together?
How to answer: CAC is what you spend to acquire one customer; LTV is the revenue that customer generates over their lifetime. A business is healthy when LTV is comfortably higher than CAC — commonly 3x or more.
5. A campaign has many clicks but no conversions. What do you check?
How to answer: Check the landing page first (speed, message match with the ad, clear call to action), then targeting (wrong audience or keywords), then tracking (is the conversion pixel even firing?). Show a logical debugging order.
6. How would you track whether a campaign is working?
How to answer: Set up conversion tracking (GA4, UTM parameters, ad platform pixels), define one primary KPI before launch, and review weekly: spend, clicks, CTR, conversions and cost per conversion.
7. What is a good click-through rate?
How to answer: Avoid one magic number — it depends on channel and industry. Search ads often see 3–5%, display under 1%. Say you'd benchmark against the account's own history and industry averages.
8. Have you run any campaign or page yourself? What were the results?
How to answer: Real experience beats certificates: a college fest page, a friend's business, your own Instagram or blog. Share numbers — reach, followers gained, budget spent — and one thing you'd do differently.
