Fresher interview prep
Amazon Business Development Executive interview questions for freshers.
Amazon BDE interviews revolve around the Leadership Principles — especially Customer Obsession — tested through STAR-format behavioural questions, plus sales scenarios on lead conversion and metrics.
1. Tell me about a time you turned an unhappy customer into a repeat buyer.
How to answer: Use STAR: set the situation, state your task, then detail the actions you took — listening first, fixing the root cause, following up. End with a measurable result like a renewed order or referral.
2. How would you approach a list of 100 cold leads in your first week?
How to answer: Show a process: segment the leads by fit or industry, research the top segment, personalise the first message, and set a daily outreach target. Mention tracking replies in a sheet or CRM.
3. Which Amazon Leadership Principle do you relate to most, and why?
How to answer: Pick one — Customer Obsession or Bias for Action work well for BDE — and back it with a real example from college, an internship or a part-time job. Vague praise without a story falls flat.
4. A prospect says your price is too high. What do you do?
How to answer: Don't discount immediately. Ask what they're comparing against, re-anchor on value and outcomes, and offer a smaller starting commitment. Show you protect margin while keeping the deal alive.
5. How do you measure whether your sales effort is working?
How to answer: Name concrete metrics: conversion rate, meetings booked per week, pipeline value, average deal size and follow-up response rate. Say you'd review them weekly and adjust the weakest stage.
6. Describe a time you missed a target. What did you change?
How to answer: Own the miss without excuses. Explain what the data told you, the one or two changes you made (more outreach, better qualification), and the improved result next cycle.
7. How would you sell a product you personally wouldn't buy?
How to answer: Separate your preference from the customer's need. Explain that you'd learn who the product is for, what problem it solves for them, and sell to that person honestly.
8. Why do you want to work at Amazon specifically?
How to answer: Reference something real: the scale of its customer base, the Leadership Principles culture, or a programme like Amazon Business. Connect it to the sales experience you want to build, not just the brand name.
