Fresher interview prep

Customer Support Executive interview questions for freshers.

Customer support interviews test de-escalation, conflict resolution, SLA awareness and how you use ticketing tools — mostly through angry-customer role plays.

  1. 1. A customer is shouting at you about a delayed order. What do you do first?

How to answer: Let them finish without interrupting, acknowledge the frustration ('I understand this delay is really inconvenient'), and apologise for the experience — not necessarily the fault. Then move to solving. Staying calm is what's being tested.

  2. 2. Tell me about a time you turned an angry person into a satisfied one.

How to answer: Use any real example — a shop job, event volunteering, even a college committee dispute. Structure: what went wrong, how you listened, what you did, and the person's reaction at the end.

  3. 3. What is an SLA and why does it matter in support?

How to answer: A Service Level Agreement sets promised response and resolution times (e.g. first reply within 4 hours). It matters because breaching it breaks customer trust and can carry penalties — so you'd triage tickets by SLA risk.

  4. 4. How do you prioritise when 10 tickets arrive at once?

How to answer: Triage by urgency and impact: service-down issues and SLA-critical tickets first, then by order of arrival. Mention using ticket priorities and tags rather than handling them randomly.

  5. 5. A customer demands a refund your policy doesn't allow. How do you respond?

How to answer: Don't just say no. Empathise, explain the policy briefly, and offer what you can do — a replacement, credit, or escalation. Show you protect the company while keeping the customer feeling heard.

  6. 6. What would you do if you don't know the answer to a customer's question?

How to answer: Never guess. Say you'll find out, give a specific time ('I'll check with the team and update you within 2 hours'), then actually follow up. Honesty plus a committed follow-up is the right answer.

  7. 7. Which ticketing or support tools have you used or heard of?

How to answer: Name real ones — Zendesk, Freshdesk, Zoho Desk, even shared Gmail. If you haven't used any, say so and explain how you'd keep track of customer issues systematically (status, owner, follow-up date).

  8. 8. How do you handle doing repetitive work without losing quality?

How to answer: Show self-awareness: use templates for common issues but personalise the opening, track your own quality scores, and treat each customer as a person with a fresh problem even if it's your hundredth ticket.
