Fresher interview prep

Business Development & Sales interview questions for freshers.

BDE and inside sales interviews test how you handle rejection, run cold outreach, hit targets and manage a pipeline — usually through role-play scenarios, not theory.

  1. 1. How do you handle a prospect who says 'I'm not interested' in the first 10 seconds?

How to answer: Don't argue. Acknowledge it, ask one short permission-based question ('Fair enough — can I ask what you're using for X right now?'), and earn 30 more seconds or exit politely. Show you stay calm under rejection.

  2. 2. Walk me through how you'd run a cold call or cold email campaign.

How to answer: Show structure: research the prospect, personalise the first line, lead with their problem not your product, one clear call to action, and a follow-up schedule of 3–5 touches. Mention tracking open and reply rates.

  3. 3. How do you prioritise leads when you have more than you can call?

How to answer: Score leads by fit (right industry, size, need) and intent (visited pricing page, replied to email). Call high-fit high-intent first. Mention that qualification beats volume.

  4. 4. Tell me about a time you convinced someone who initially said no.

How to answer: Use a real example — a college fest sponsor, a client in an internship, even a group project disagreement. Focus on how you found their real objection and addressed it, not on pressuring them.

  5. 5. What would you do in your first 30 days as a BDE here?

How to answer: Week 1: learn the product, customers and pitch. Week 2: shadow calls and start outreach with feedback. Weeks 3–4: own a pipeline with daily targets. Showing a plan signals you understand the job.

  6. 6. How do you manage your sales pipeline?

How to answer: Describe stages (prospect, contacted, meeting, proposal, closed) and say you'd review it weekly, keep notes after every touch, and never let a warm lead go more than a few days without follow-up. Mention a CRM or even a disciplined spreadsheet.

  7. 7. A customer agreed verbally but has gone silent. What do you do?

How to answer: Follow up with value, not 'just checking in' — share a relevant case study or answer a likely concern. Create gentle urgency (a timeline, limited slot). If still silent after 3–4 touches, park them and move on.

  8. 8. How do you stay motivated after a week of rejections?

How to answer: Be honest: sales is a numbers game with a conversion rate. Focus on controllable inputs (calls made, follow-ups sent) rather than outcomes, and review what's working weekly. Avoid saying rejection doesn't affect you — it sounds fake.
